Hello.

I’m Scott Kelly from Henderson, NC and have lived in Wilmington, NC since 1997. I grew up listening to my dad’s six piece band rehearse in our garage and later starting my own band through high school and college while eventually becoming my dad’s band sound/light technician. The first time I ever heard their live music and felt the amps and speakers pushing all that sound, I knew that I had to be a musician.

I got married after college, had a baby boy and moved from Raleigh to Wilmington in 1997. I was able to transfer with the company I worked with at that time. It didn’t take long until I started immersing myself in the local music scene here, going to open mic nights and meeting other like-minded musicians.

I’ve played in several bands since I’ve been here and have played with a lot of great talented musicians too. Uptown Easy is the second cover band I’ve started since I’ve lived here. Velcro (80’s Rock) was the first band. Bill Holland was the bassist and continued with me in starting Uptown Easy. I wanted to start a soul/funk/dance band with a horn section, like my dad was in, so I started searching for the members online and around town. I did not want to be a poacher and take another musician from another existing band, so I set out to find people new in town or people I knew that were not in a band at that time. Uptown Easy is seven musicians from North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, Arizona and Massachusetts.

The name Uptown Easy came from searching for a band name that didn’t exist online. We wanted to come up with something we could take the domain www.uptowneasy.com. This was important so we could start branding on social media and grow a fan base.

Uptown Easy takes pride in choosing the right songs. We want to perform the song as close to the original as possible and maybe put a little Uptown Easy into each song as well. We arrange our song list in a way that will keep the dancing going throughout the show, with some slow songs added in to get the shy dancers on the dance floor too. We have chosen some challenging songs to learn only to try and set ourselves apart from the next band. Uptown Easy covers bands from Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder to Peter Gabriel, Alanis Morissette, Bruno Mars and Beyonce.

We all have day jobs currently except a couple of us are retired and have other interests or hobbies other than music. Our guitarist, Brian has a degree in horticulture and has been working in it just about as long as playing guitar. He definitely has the green thumb in the band. Spence, our pianist is a very creative guy. He’s been a jeweler, a potter and a concrete sculpture artist currently selling his art with his beautiful wife at Hayden Studios in Southport, NC. Uptown Easy’s trombone player, Keith, likes collecting vintage treasures and enjoys a rare cigar from time to time. Bill, our bassist enjoys the outdoors and loves riding and taking care of their horses on the farm. Our amazing singer, Jaime, followed her passion with music and became a music teacher. She is also a loving mother and wife to an awesome family. Her hobbies are traveling, cooking and photography. Our talented trumpet player is currently retired living the life of luxury. Golfing, going to the beach with his lovely wife and jet setting around the world tasting new and different cuisines. As for myself, Scott the drummer, I have four children, a lovely supportive wife and just became a grandpa (Papa) for the second time. My oldest and his wife have a little girl and just recently had a beautiful baby boy. Other than my family, music is my biggest passion. Anything from playing instruments, running sound and lights and acquiring music equipment makes me happy. Maybe one day I will be able to make my living at my passion. Although, I currently have a lot of mouths to feed.
